A Comparative Study of Laparoscopy and Hysterosalpingography in Assessment of Tubal Patency in Infertile Women

Abstract
The assessment of patency of the fallpian tubes is a fundamental part of the investigation of primary and secondary infertility.
A comparative study of hysterosalpingography and laparoscopy in the evaluation of tubal factor in 75 cases of infertile women were carried out to determine the diagnostic value of- each procedure.
The hysterosalpingographies agreed with the laparoscopy studies in 54 cases(72% ). Seven patients(9.3 %) who had normal hysterosalpingographic findings were abnormal laparoscopic findings.
Ten patients(13.3 %) who had abnormal hysterosalpingographic findigs were normal laparoscopic findings.
As for the tubal occlusion whether with peritubal adhesion or not, laparoscopy was definitely superior to hysterosalpingography.
The pelvic and ovarian diseases were the most common abnormalities found by laparos copy, whereas all intrauterine factors, were easily detectable by hysterosalpingography. Laparoscopy gave much useful information either at variance with hysterosalpingography or in addition to that yielded by hysterosalpingography.
